About Things Parents Know

The stuff nobody tells you until you need it

Last updated August 13, 2026

Things Parents Know publishes early years, school years, teenagers for readers who want the working version rather than the promotional one.

The tone we aim for is candid, generous, never preachy — we assume you are intelligent, busy, and able to tell when you are being flattered.

What we cover

The site is organised into 6 sections:

  • Early Years — Newborns to preschool, and the long stretch where nothing is routine yet.
  • School Years — Homework, friendships, teachers and the logistics of term time.
  • Teenagers — Independence, boundaries and conversations that go better than you expect.
  • Running a Household — Meals, money, mess and the systems that stop a week collapsing.
  • Parent Wellbeing — Sleep, patience, relationships and the person doing the parenting.
  • Family Life — Siblings, grandparents, holidays and everything with more than two people in it.

Who writes it

Every article carries a named writer with a profile page, and nothing is published anonymously. You can see the full list on our writers page.

How it is funded
